Project description

One of the greatest problems facing renewable energy, when deployed in a distributed architecture, is the overall stability of a utility network. Due to the highly intermittent behavior and low capacity factors of wind turbines and solar arrays, adding these sources to the grid can have large implications for both commercial and residential clients. By developing mathematical models of these power plants and of generalized load profiles, I will simulate and analyze the potential outcomes of adding these sources in different configurations, and will look for ways to minimize negative affects on current clients when renewable sources are integrated.
