Project description

Error free medication management is a growing concern. Currently only registered nurses can dispense medications to individuals in skilled nursing homes. The challenge is to develop technology that could be used by personnel with minimal training with error rates less than current practice. We will develop a mobile application that verifies the individual taking the medication and verifies the correct medication has been dispensed. The system will be personalized to accommodate modifications to the medication regime, issue warnings, and provide reminders. The project will create a prototype that will be evaluated at an elderly residents community (nursing home). This solution will eliminate or mitigate a number of errors that could happen in such scenarios, such as keep medication/pills schedule, provide pictures and detailed information about the medications, walk caretaker through procedures, and alert nurses if needed. The project addresses topics in designing and implementing programming systems, intelligent user interfaces, and context aware computing
